This website is the official site for people wanting to join the Balloons for Peace Group
This website was set up on November 2nd around midnight. It will be undergoing an overhall in the next few days to make itself more presentable.
Mission Statement
Here at DarpaBalloon.com we believe in the power of the internet and social media, not just to find balloons, but to do some good in the world. All of the $40k will be donated to a charity of some kind decided upon by all team members... or used in one way or another (that we as a team shall come up with) to help promote peace. If you like this idea and want to join this team check back in a few days.
Strategy
At darpaballon.com we have several experienced engineers working to make sure that team "Balloons for Peace" wins. The overarching strategy is to convince people of our noble cause, then generate as large a social network as possible in 1 month. We believe that this challenge can only be won by a huge social network of people devoting themselves to our cause. We will do this by co-opting as many people and organizations as possible though email lists and endorsements, giving them positive incentives for driving traffic to our site. We shall put our site up on Amazon.com cloud network in order to handle the expected spike in traffic, and create a custom program that will be able to record and monitor submissions on the Big Day: Dec 5th 2009. The program will send our automatic emails to people confirm sightings before we submit our final answers. Only with enough people participating will we really have a chance to succeed. We plan on having a dry run in the final week before the 5th, perhaps if we can manage it even find sponsors for our own balloon hunt - money again going to NGO's primarily aimed at peace intiatives.Endorsements
